Tatami Fightwear rules OK!

Tatami Fightwear was established in 2009 in the United Kingdom and was set up by Gareth and Lee to address a need for good quality BJJ equipment at affordable prices. In a few short years it has grown from a small concern to one of the biggest, best known, and widely respected BJJ brands in the world.

Gareth, a brown belt in BJJ was involved in teaching children and adults in deprived areas and found it increasing difficult to find good quality equipment at prices his students could afford. That's when Tatami Fightwear was born. Since then they have worked tirelessly to build a good brand reputation, get better quality products and support academies and shops around the world.

Tatami Fightwear products are now available in every continent in the world and through over 1000 academies and stores. They also sponsor some of the worlds greatest fighters like Fernando 'Terere' Augusto and Robson Moura, Dean Lister and Pablo Popovich.

Specialising in the clothing and fightwear side of the sport from belts to GI's and from rashguards to belts they have combined innovative design with meticulous attention to functional detail in every item of clothing they have brought to their range.

The latest addition to their range is the Estilo 5.0 BJJ GI which is not a radical departure from the previous version, but does add a number of cool new touches. Notably, there is now an inside liner covering the jacket yoke and the side vents have been modified to flare out wider, something Tatami refer to as a Y-shaped vent. Other than that, the materials and excellent quality remain the same.

The jacket maintains the previous incarnation of 550gsm pearlweave. This is a great weight level for a sturdy, high quality and durable feeling uniform. What is new are the branding elements, Y-shaped side vents, inside yoke liner and even more comfy cuff tape.

The pants are made from 12oz canvas cotton. Like the jacket, they feel sturdy and hard wearing yet still offer enough comfort and flex while moving. The rope drawstring is held in place by three very wide belt loops plus the branded patch, which acts as a fourth loop. Knee layers only extend halfway down the shin. Personally I feel all pants should have the reinforced lower leg portion extend all the way down to the ankle. Gi material makes up the gusset crotch portion.

The Estilo 5 improves on the previous model in a number of minor but arguably noticeable differences. It is still a very comfortable and well fitting uniform that performs perfectly under training.
